My life recently has been dramatically interspersed with moments of utter relaxation and downright busy-ness. Last weekend I spent with friends in Portland, helping Uncle D slay some rabbits and catching up with the city folk. Killing rabbits isn't that big of a deal, but it is still taking a life and therefore has a distinctly spiritual and emotional aspect. My system runs hot when we're out there in the backyard plonkin' bunnies on the head. Had Spring Chinook salmon that L + D had caught that morning for dinner, which was absolute deliciousness. Saw Dan Savage speak on Sunday at Powell's. It was a sunny and gorgeous weekend.
Monday morning I was back in the Make Room at 7, made cheese until 3:30 when I left with two coolers chock full of cheese for my two markets this week. Drove up to Portland on Monday night and moved a mini-fridge...then collapsed into a deep-dark sleep.
Tuesday was my first time doing the Lloyd Center market. I was a little nervous about getting all my ducks in a row, plus I had to go to the bank before the market started to get all kinds of change for the cash box, pick up the bread that I am to sell alongside the cheese and buy a bunch of ice. Things fell through with the bread last week, but that will be different this week and I will be hocking those two goods together, which hopefully will be good for the cheese business.
Finished the market at 2 and didn't have another one until Wednesday at 2, so I had pretty much a whole vacation day in Portland. In that 24 hour period I took 3 dogs to the beach twice, made some delicious hamburgers with homemade buns and gardened, and slept. The weather was gorgeous and I am so glad to have a job that allows for this type of freedom. Going to Sauvie Island on Wednesday morning was the best...
More soon gotta run
