View from an afternoon bike ride |
Back to rural life, ahh yes... so slow, so relaxing. Perhaps that's because I haven't started work yet. What I have been doing is playing house. The boyfriend and I have moved to Brownsville, and our house is more complete with each passing day. But allow me to back up for just a moment and tell you about this quaint little town I now call "home".
Population sixteen hundred thousand and thirty seven, this charming town was featured in the 1986 film Stand By Me and went be the name of Castle Rock. From what I can tell so far, Brownsville rocks. It's a small town with a pretty bridge and a happy river and it has lots of early 20th century brick buildings lining the sidewalks of Main St.
On our first night in town, my mother and I went to the Brownsville Saloon for a beer and a burger. The crowd was lively, as it was the weekly pool tournament. The burgers were great, our micro-brews were $3 a pop and we got to watch Louisville beat Florida.
The house we are renting is so adorable, an old farmhouse built in 1894 about a mile from downtown. Across the road is the Dari Mart where one can obtain bananas and beer. It feels so amazing to have my own place again.
The big tree is a maple, and the swing is highly functional. As is the heater in the living room. |

BED |
So yes, things have been set up, we even have internet out here! HA! and a bed!
Tomorrow is my first milking shift over at Fraga Farm where I will be working for the foreseeable future milking goats and making cheese. I have been reading all of the books on the subject, and preparing myself mentally for some hard work ahead, but in a lot of ways I have no idea what the next few months hold for me. Until then, I can rest assured that I have an adorable house and partner to come home to, so that's nice.
More sooon!
