Sheesh! It's been a great whirlwind of a week and I can't believe it's Friday again. Woke up before 6 this morning and was in the "make room" making cheese with Jan at 7. We salted and pressed some Farmhouse and prepared a bunch of Camembert for aging. Which involves testing the pH, salting it and putting it in the cheese cave (a temperature controlled room which smells like the best cheesy goodness).
After cheese time was milk time, the goats were good. Milking has become almost completely second nature, but one does need to remain mindful because there are always 25 things going on at once in there. When I was done I ate some delicious frittata in the sun with my dog by the river and quickly headed over to my other job to clean the barn. It is so warm and sunny out today! Roscoe helped me muck the barn and then I got some compost for my garden.
I drove the tractor over to the compost heap with a large pastic container and a shovel in the bucket and proceeded to fill the container. Then I drove the tractor right up the back of my car, opened the hatchback and lifted the bucket so the container was just about the same height as the back of my car, at which point I put the parking brake ON and got off the tractor and heaved the whole thing (well over 100 pounds of compost methinks) into my vehicle. Sweet! Raised bed here I come!
In an hour or so here I'm going to get my tired butt up and finish building my bed. After I loaded up the compost Roscoe, Marcello (my boss's beautiful Aussie/Lab mix and Rosky's new friend) and I took a tour of the property where I work. They have at least 60 acres including a large lower pasture which was all bright green grass and sunshine this afternoon. The dogs and I ran around until we were all panting and tired and then we flopped down in the shade. All and all, a great day in the sun so far.
Now I'm pretty pooped and neighborhood kids are playing screechy games in my front yard so the chances of napping are next to none, but that's okay because I can sleep as late as I want tomorrow! Maybe even until 8...
