Helsing Junction Weekend

Ground Cherries
Alright fools, here's the weekend update.  Friday was busy as always: harvesting, harvesting, harvesting.  Oh how we picked!  Tomatoes and ground cherries were the two exciting additions to the Friday what-to-pick list.

After work I headed into Portland to kick it with my college buddies and bike around like a kid again.  It was a terribly fun night.  I danced to rock and roll and talked to good-looking gentlemen.  Woke up early on Saturday morning to head north to Rochester Washington for the Helsing Junction Sleepover!  We spent the day lounging in the sun, listening to music and swimming in the river.  The night was spent drinking whiskey and dancing along to host of Olympia-based bands all signed to K records, which sponsored the event.

What a lovely thing for a farm to do.  This 35-acre organic farm grows lots of the same vegetables we do (though they sure did have some alien-looking zucchini to my eye) just much, much more (five times the acreage) !  And they had 25 or so sheep, and a llama.  Holy heck.  The party was great, great fun and around midnight I passed out to a dreamless sleep in one of the distant fields.  Woke up for about fifteen seconds to see the sun rise before falling back to sleep.

Clemmie and Lynnae at our little campsite around dusk

Sunday was “chill” we listened to music and I drank obscene amounts of coffee.  Before departing Lynnae and I went in the river for a final dip and I ended up gashing my big toe rather violently.  It bled a lot.  No stitches needed though, folks.  Back at the farm now and unbelievably stoked for my best friend, the great visual artist and banjo-player, Peter Linden (www.peter-linden.com) to come visit me tomorrow.  Hurray!

Me and my dear friend Clémence

Today we are going to pull all of the weeds out of the Gold Patch in order to do some serious direct-seeding of carrots later this week, as well as the construction of a new high tunnel.  All very exciting if you ask me!
